“Thou shall remove thy makeup before going to bed” is one of the beauty commandments we’re taught from an early age. This means that learning how to apply magnetic eyeliner and lashes is just half the battle. Removing makeup might be the last thing most of us want to do after an exhausting night of glam, but doing so is crucial for the health of our skin and lashes.
We all know how important it is to wash off our makeup at the end of the day, but removing magnetic lashes before going to bed can make a huge difference in the longevity of your lashes — both magnetic and natural! And don’t worry, magnetic eyelashes are much easier to clean than false lashes. Because you don’t have to deal with lash adhesive, there’s no need to pry off the sticky glue that — ironically — is a magnet for makeup residue, dust, and strands of natural lashes.
Proper removal and care can help you get the most use out of your magnetic eyelashes. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to remove magnetic eyeliner and lashes the proper way. Keep reading for a step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Gently remove the magnetic eyelashes
Hold the outer corner of the magnetic eyelash with your fingers, slowly pulling it away from the lash line as you make your way towards the inner corner of the eye. Be sure to grab it by the lash band and not by the lash fibers or magnets, as this may damage your magnetic lashes.
Pro tip: As with any lash enhancement, you can lose a few natural lashes when you remove magnetic lashes. So, pay extra care during this step.
Step 2: Choose the right makeup remover
Removing magnetic eyeliner is just as easy as removing any normal eyeliner — you can use an eye makeup remover, micellar water, or natural oils, such as coconut, olive, or jojoba oil. However, you’ll want to avoid using anything oil-based when cleaning your magnetic lashes, as this may damage them.
Step 3: Wipe off the magnetic eyeliner from your eyelids
Apply a generous amount of makeup remover on a cotton pad. Close your eyes and gently press the soaked cotton pad on your eyelid for a few seconds. This will allow the makeup remover to break down the magnetic eyeliner, making it easier to remove. Then, wipe off the liner from your eyelids. If there is any makeup residue left, you can wash it off with warm water.
Step 4: Clean off any residue on the magnetic lashes
It’s normal to find dried makeup stuck along the lash band, magnets, or fibers of your magnetic lashes. Don’t worry, there are a couple of ways you can remove this.
If there is just a small amount of makeup residue on the magnets of your lashes, you can use your fingernails to carefully scrape it off.
To clean your magnetic eyelashes thoroughly, dip a cotton bud in a bit of oil-free makeup remover. Then, gently wipe the micro magnets, one at a time. Use a dabbing, swiping, or rolling motion to get rid of the makeup residue. We recommend doing this at least after every two uses.
Keeping your magnetic eyelashes clean is necessary for hygiene, but it will also extend their lifespan. They can last much longer than fake lashes applied with lash glue if well-maintained and cleaned after every use.
Step 5: Put the magnetic lashes back in their box
After removing and cleaning your magnetic lashes, you can place them back into their box for safekeeping. This will prevent them from getting dusty or losing their shape.
Fake lashes tend to collect dust and gunk over time, especially if you wear mascara. Bur magnetic lashes aren’t cheap, and we know that you want to make the most out of your beauty purchases. To keep your lashes looking fabulous, read our guide on how to clean magnetic lashes.
